“Sun On The Horizon” came to life one quiet morning on a beach in Casablanca. I was watching the first light of day spill across the waves, the sun slowly rising over the Atlantic. In that stillness, and the ships in the distance, I thought of the sailors and workers who once left this port, setting out into the unknown for months at a time, carrying their hopes and heartbreak with them.
At that moment, I felt that same ache of distance. I was far away, missing my home. That sunrise became a symbol—for all the things we chase, and all the people we leave behind to chase them.
But this song is also deeply personal. It’s a tribute to those who paved the way before me. My Tita Em, my aunt, was one of those brave souls. As a young woman, she left her home in the Philippines and came to Canada, not just for herself, but to open the door for the rest of us. She was kind, strong, loving, and endlessly selfless. Everyone who knew her loved her. Because of her courage, the rest of us were able to dream bigger.
My mother was one of those who followed. She raised me in Canada as a single parent, pouring all of her strength into giving me a better life. Her sacrifices, her resilience, and her unwavering love shaped the person I am today.
“Sun On The Horizon” is for all of them—for the ones who leave, the ones who wait, and the ones who build something beautiful from the unknown. It’s for the love that crosses oceans and the light that reminds us of home.
Lyrics
Sitting alone under a pale moonlight lost in his own thoughts
The sound of crashing waves and the smell of the salty breeze make up his world
He sees a lonely light on the far horizon beckoning home
As he thinks about a girl from Paris and a kiss they shared in Rome
Look at the sun on the horizon
The tip of the ocean is shining like gold
The sigh of the wind, the cry of a raven
Tears from the heavens washes the shore
Picture perfect sunrise, over Casablanca Bay
A fortress of clouds surround her
Poised to steal the light of day
Captured by an artist
Onto a canvas made of scars
Painting the landscape, she closes her eyes, searching for the stars
To find the portraits on her mantle, and the flowers in her vase
Look at the sun on the horizon
The tip of the ocean is shining like gold
The sigh of the wind, the cry of a raven
Tears from the heavens washes the shore
Look at the ships sailing away from here, crossing the seas of fear, facing the cold
Dark nights and the days to come, with dreams of their kingdom come, the brave and the bold
